Visiting Sub-Internship Diversity Scholarship

The University of California, San Francisco – East Bay Surgery Program is committed to training the next generation of outstanding and diverse and surgeons in a hybrid training model that combines superb hands-on clinical training with academic opportunity. We welcome applicants to apply to the Claude H. Organ, Jr., diversity sub-internship scholarship program and join one of our resident-centered services at the safety net hospital and level 1 trauma center rooted in the Oakland community.

Students will participate in a four-week visiting sub-internship in general and trauma surgery at Highland Hospital. The UCSF-East Bay general surgery residency is affiliated with University of California, San Francisco, however, it focuses on care of the patients of Alameda County.

Program support includes a $1500 stipend to help offset the cost of travel, housing, fees, and incidental expenses. The sub-intern will function in the role of a supervised surgical intern and will be required to attend all conferences including core curriculum, morbidity and mortality conference and simulation lab experiences with the house staff.
