“We, the resident surgeons of UCSF-East Bay, unanimously believe that Black Lives Matter. As trauma surgeons in training, we bear witness to the violence which is disproportionately inflicted upon black and brown bodies, and we stand against state-sponsored violence. However, speaking out against violence is insufficient, and we must reflect on our own implicit biases and educate ourselves about the community in which we live and work. We honor Oakland’s legacy of civil rights activism, and vow to work with the community to correct healthcare disparities. Within our own training program, we commit to eliminating the inequity in medicine that obstructs the careers of talented Black, Indigenous, and people of color surgeons. It is our duty to use our privilege to dismantle systems of racism and white supremacy.”

UCSF Office of Diversity and Outreach

We're committed to building a broadly diverse community, nurturing a culture that is welcoming and supportive, and engaging diverse ideas for the provision of culturally competent education, discovery, and patient care.

UCSF GME Diversity Committee

The Office of Graduate Medical Education is committed to training physicians from all backgrounds and cultures and has an interest in developing a diverse community among residents and fellows from all training programs. This year the Office of GME is planning several events including many social events, recruitment activities, and opportunities to represent UCSF at various annual meetings of national medical organizations. There are also opportunities to serve on diversity committees within the School of Medicine and the UCSF campus. All trainees interested in increasing the diversity among trainees at UCSF are welcome to join us at future events. We also encourage all department chairs and program directors to share any ideas or suggestions for future activities.
