2024-2025 Resident Roster
Chief Residents
Kian Banks MD
Hometown: Fremont, CA
Undergraduate: University of California, Los Angeles
Medical School: University of Southern California
Research: Trauma and Thoracic Surgery at Highland Hospital and Kaiser Oakland
Favorite thing about UCSF-East Bay: Undoubtedly, the people. But also, UCSF-East Bay has given me the space and autonomy to build my confidence as a physician both intraoperatively and with patient management. There is always someone to turn to when I have questions, but I also feel a sense of ownership with my patients, which, I believe, is a particular strength of our program. The academic focus and opportunity to dedicate time to research is helping me develop into the academic surgeon I plan to become.
Emanuel (E-Man) Jaramillo, MD
Hometown: Live Oak, CA
Undergraduate: University of California, Davis
Medical School: University of California, Davis
Research: Healthcare Disparities and Frailty in Vascular Surgery at UCSF and SF VA Medical Center
Favorite thing about UCSF-East Bay: The autonomy, early hands-on experience, diverse patient population, and of course my fellow residents.
Emily Kao, MD
Hometown: Fremont, CA
Undergraduate: University of California, Berkeley
Medical School: Case Western Reserve University
Research: Pediatric Surgery and Trauma at CHO
Favorite thing about UCSF-East Bay: My co-residents and the patient population. We all try to help each other. Residency is so much happier when you know that you have that support and co-residents who have your back. One of the kind of selfish benefits of working at a safety net hospital is getting to feel like you're making a difference because you're providing care that a patient might not otherwise get.
Emily Landry, MD
Hometown: New Orleans, LA
Undergraduate: Louisiana State University
Medical School: LSUHSC New Orleans School of Medicine
Favorite thing about UCSF-East Bay: My co-residents and the autonomy we earn throughout training.
About Me: I like spending time with family, my pets, hiking, soccer, going to breweries, and gardening.
Dimitrios (Dimitri) Pappademos, MD
Hometown: Elk Grove, CA
Undergraduate: Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo
Medical School: Medical College of Wisconsin
Favorite thing about UCSF-East Bay: My co-residents and getting to operate early on in training.
About Me: I enjoy photography and finding new places to shoot. During shelter in place, I learned how o cook many of my favorite Greek foods.
Jesse Santos, MD
Hometown: Freeport, NY
Undergraduate: Columbia University
Medical School: Columbia University
Research: Primary Graft Dysfunction and Chronic Lung Allograft Dysfunction within Murine Models at UCSF
Favorite thing about UCSF-East Bay: The autonomy that is earned later on in training. The amount of operating time with a specialist without the fear of a fellow coming in. By far, my co-residents, couldn't do it without them.
Lawrence Willis, MD
Hometown: Stockton, CA
Undergraduate: University of California, Irvine
Medical School: University of California, Davis
Research: Pediatric General Surgery and Trauma at LeBonheur Children's Hospital Memphis
Favorite thing about UCSF-East Bay: Bar far it's the residents. This is a group of people that will have your back through all the ups and downs of residency. Definitely wouldn't have made it this far without their support!
