What was your favorite thing about UCSF East Bay?

Highland Hospital – I love the variability of the experience at Highland. There’s a lot of interesting pathology there because of the safety net nature of the hospital which by its nature give the opportunity to really make a difference in someone’s life.

What about UCSF East Bay most helps you in your career now?

Coping with changing plans, you have to be adaptable to what the fates throw your way.

What would you like to share with applicants about your experiences at East Bay?

East Bay has a lot of advantages – great cases and committed attendings at all educational sites. What we may lack in name brand recognition or fancy skills centers we make up for in clinical experience and resident camaraderie.

Do you have a favorite story of working with a co-resident? Or an attending?

My colleague became my best friend over the course of our 7 year training. When it came time to match for fellowship we manipulated the process to try to be in the same city for fellowship. We ended up matching at the same Hospital and when we announced our results we said we had couples matched and people seemed to have believed us despite the well-known fact that she and I were both in committed relationships (to other people).
